Rockstar Veteran Says GTA VI May Come to PC Sooner Than Expected, Estimates Unofficial Port Cost
Former Rockstar North technical director Obbe Vermeij thinks the PC version of Grand Theft Auto VI could arrive sooner than expected. He also warned that a fan-made PC port could hurt sales of an official release.
GTA VI is due to launch on consoles first, with no PC version initially available. In a recent interview, Vermeij pointed to enthusiasts using artificial intelligence to create unofficial ports of console games. He said he was confident Rockstar Games was aware of the practice.
If I were Rockstar, I would be worried that someone would just take the PlayStation 5 version and use AI to adapt it for PC. It wouldn’t be as high-quality as the PC version [from Rockstar itself], but it could still hurt sales.

Vermeij estimated that creating a GTA VI port with AI would cost “tens of thousands of dollars” in tokens. Even so, he thinks people will try to make an unofficial PC version. Many fans would be willing to pay to play GTA VI on PC.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Some rumors suggest the PC version could arrive as early as the beginning of 2027.
Some tech enthusiasts are already running GTA VI gameplay footage through various tools to imagine how the game might look on PC at high frame rates with NVIDIA DLSS 5.
