FromSoftware Fans Criticize Bloodborne PC Port Over AI Use

Not everyone approves of using modern development tools.

Fans have long known how to run Bloodborne on PC using the ShadPS4 emulator. Over past months, numerous mods have been released for the game, alongside something resembling an unofficial remaster. Recently, however, everything reached a new level with the arrival of The Hunter’s Dream and bbhost, a project for natively running Bloodborne on Windows and Linux.

The Hunter’s Dream is positioned as a custom multiplayer server for Bloodborne. It was created using reverse engineering of the game’s network protocol:

This is an online home for the bbhost project, which allows players to get a full Bloodborne experience on PC. It brings back asynchronous and cooperative multiplayer to the game, and also provides online play through the PlayStation 4 emulator “shadPS4”.

Thanks to The Hunter’s Dream, the developers explain, players will get Bloodborne’s online elements, such as player messages or phantoms. However, cross-platform play between bbhost and shadPS4 is not supported, meaning co-op and invasions are available only between players on their respective platforms.

However, some members of the Bloodborne community and fans of FromSoftware’s work are not thrilled with this project. The bbhost project was created using the Claude artificial intelligence, and players suspect that The Hunter’s Dream is also the result of AI technology. Dissatisfied users are making statements along the lines of “do not play this AI slop—use an emulator created by humans.”
