First Image of Aslan Released from The Chronicles of Narnia The Magician’s Nephew

Meryl Streep will voice the great lion in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation.

Empire magazine has published the first exclusive image of Aslan from the upcoming film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. In this new version, the mythical lion has eyes of different colors—blue and orange—while his muzzle is covered with striking red stripes.

The film is based on C.S. Lewis’s novel The Magician’s Nephew, which tells the story of the creation of Narnia and the earliest events in the history of the magical world. Greta Gerwig, known for Barbie, directed the film. David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell star in the lead roles. The cast also features Emma Mackey, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, and Meryl Streep, who voices Aslan. Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, who previously collaborated with Gerwig on Barbie, composed the music.

According to cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, the film has a budget of $280 million. Netflix is making a major investment in the project, as it will be the service’s first film to receive a full theatrical release.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will arrive in theaters on February 12, 2027, and will debut on Netflix on April 2, exactly 49 days after its theatrical premiere.
