With Diablo having won, greed has lost its meaning, and the greedy goblin is now searching for a new purpose in life.

Shortly after the announcement of Diablo V, the Blizzard Entertainment team held a special stream to discuss the project, showcase the inventory, and publish various concepts.

According to the story of Diablo V, Diablo wins. In the new installment of the franchise, players will be invited to become the heir of Westmarch and embark on a journey. The game world will be procedurally generated, meaning that “the landscape, key areas, monsters, and rewards can change right before your eyes”:

Now Sanctuary is under Diablo’s rule, so towns and fortresses will no longer save you. Instead, you must gather a caravan of allies and set out on a campaign across the scorched wastes.

Allies will include a former sister of the Sightless Eye and “a lost greedy goblin who is searching for a new meaning in a world where greed has lost its meaning.”

Three classes of Diablo V have been shown so far (there will be more):

  • Demon Hunter: characters of this class are able to “strike from the shadows and rapidly attack a target in a leap, showering it with fire from dual crossbows.”
  • Monk: “He is able to beat demons with his bare hands and summon the powers of Light to punish those who stand in his way.”
  • A completely new class, the Plague Knight: “smart knights envelop the battlefield in sickness and blight, thereby fueling their own powers.”

In Diablo V, the developers will introduce an item system inspired by Diablo II. At the same time, they specified that they are experimenting with equipment stat requirements.

The arsenal will heavily depend on the inventory system, with large items once again taking up more space in bags. In addition, equipment sets are returning:

A deep crafting system awaits you, inspired by the mechanics of the Lord of Hatred expansion, as well as runes and runewords from Diablo II.

Diablo V is expected to be released in 2029. The early announcement was explained by the desire to involve players in the development process as early as possible, and feedback will be studied.
