Far Cry TV Series Casts Hamish Linklater and Brendan Gleeson

Video game adaptations appear frequently in television and film today. Positive reactions to HBO’s The Last of Us helped drive this trend. Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie received a warm welcome from critics and fans. Ubisoft and FX are now working on an adaptation of the Far Cry games, which added new cast members to a group that already includes Steve Buscemi.

As Variety reported, five actors joined the Far Cry cast. Brendan Gleeson, Hamish Linklater from the Emmy-nominated series Widow’s Bay, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Sam Spruell from FX’s Alien: Earth, and Jamie Demetriou are now attached to the project. They join Steve Buscemi, Rob McElhenney, and Lizzy Caplan. Rob McElhenney serves as a co-creator alongside Noah Hawley, the creative force behind FX shows such as Legion, Fargo, and Alien: Earth.

What will FX’s Far Cry show be about?

The series draws inspiration from Ubisoft’s video game franchise, which launched in 2004. Officials have not shared plot details, and the studio has not confirmed whether the show will adapt existing game stories. Ubisoft and FX intend for the series to span multiple seasons using an anthology format. Each season will feature a distinct story and a new cast.

Far Cry previously received a direct-to-video film adaptation in 2008. Netflix released the animated series Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix in 2023, drawing inspiration from the standalone Far Cry 3 DLC titled Blood Dragon. Ubisoft previously attempted a feature film adaptation with Assassin’s Creed in 2016 starring Michael Fassbender, though that project struggled critically and commercially. Creators hope the Far Cry series meets a better fate.
