Fan Builds Graveyard of Studios Shut Down by Electronic Arts Outside Company Office

The creators of The Sims 4 also made the list, though some consider the studio long dead.

Following the recent announcement regarding the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of the new Mass Effect game, players began recalling other studios “killed” by Electronic Arts.

A user known as Xveers posted photos of an improvised “cemetery” outside an Electronic Arts office:

So, after the closure of BioWare, something broke inside me. EA’s offices in our city have been standing for years… even decades. And this year, given the circumstances, I decided that maybe I should do something. After a day of cutting, painting, printing, and taping, a small installation appeared in front of the EA office.

The enthusiast set up a tombstone for BioWare (1995–2026) alongside several other studios:

  • Bullfrog — 1987–2001
  • Pandemic — 1988–2009
  • Origin — 1983–2004
  • Visceral — 1998–2017
  • Maxis — 1987–2014 (the studio formally still exists and The Sims 4 receives ongoing support)
  • Westwood — 1985–2003

According to Xveers, he initially wanted to make more tombstones, but ran out of time: “I knew I had to do it that very night, no later.”

Some Mass Effect fans are currently running a campaign to persuade Electronic Arts to reconsider its decision and continue developing the new installment in the franchise. Efforts include putting up billboards, announcing a gaming marathon for N7 Day, and graffiti tagging near one of Electronic Arts’ offices.
