Riftbound — Riot Games’ physical League of Legends trading card game — launched its Origins set globally, and now the developer is turning its attention to the second expansion, Spiritforged. As part of the preview season, Game Informer was given an exclusive look at an upcoming Champion card.
That reveal centered on a familiar face: Jax. In League lore he’s a feared duelist and the last weaponmaster of Icathia, known for flinging a lamp at his enemies and overwhelming foes with agility and raw force. The card, Jax, Unrelenting, channels that identity by focusing on weapons and equipment interactions.
Mechanically, Jax, Unrelenting is a Body (orange) Champion with 3 Might, costs 4, and requires one Body Rune. Its standout ability, Weaponmaster, lets you Equip an existing Equipment on the battlefield to Jax for one Rune less than normal — even if that Equipment is already attached to another unit. That interaction makes certain Equipment cards (for example, early plays like Long Sword) effectively free to attach to Jax when he enters play.
Additionally, when you attach an Equipment to Jax, Unrelenting you may pay 1 to draw a card. That optional draw effect turns Jax into a card-advantage engine: attaching gear not only buffs him but also helps you dig for answers and maintain momentum across turns.
Jax pairs naturally with the Legend Grandmaster at Arms, which facilitates attaching and detaching Equipment — a synergy that encourages getting pieces on board early, skirmishing, and then deploying Jax to gather those items for both resources and a tempo swing. In short: load the battlefield with Equipment, then play Jax to sweep them up and convert that board presence into card advantage and a decisive push.
