Even Minecraft’s Creator Doesn’t Like Creepers — Notch Responded to Criticism of Modern Mojang
The iconic green mob has frayed the nerves of many players.
Earlier, creative director Jens Bergensten commented on Minecraft’s notorious green mob. He suggested that in the game’s current form it probably wouldn’t have been introduced.
Those remarks drew criticism online, and the original creator of Minecraft, Markus “Notch” Persson, responded to the discussion.
Persson explained that he himself was never a fan of the creeper, had long seen its destructive potential as a problem, and had attempted to address it:
I often see Jens being criticized for saying the creeper endures only because it’s iconic, and I want to clarify the matter. Actually, that was my original stance. I tried to change the creeper so it would detonate only as a result of a player’s action (or inaction), because I felt that random, uncontrollable destruction isn’t enjoyable.
