Elden Ring Movie Becomes A24’s Most Expensive Production Yet

A24’s Elden Ring movie hasn’t had an official update in a while. A new report now says the film has a very large budget. It costs more than any other movie the Backrooms studio has made, which makes it A24’s first true blockbuster.

What is the budget of A24’s Elden Ring?

The Wall Street Journal published an in-depth report on A24 on Oct. 23. The piece mostly covers how the studio found success this year with Backrooms and You Can See Everything. It also confirms that Elden Ring has a budget close to $200 million. The report says: “A24 is currently making its most expensive movie to date—an adaptation of the video game Elden Ring scheduled for release in 2028 that costs nearly $200 million, according to people familiar with the matter.”

That budget puts Elden Ring well past Marty Supreme as A24’s most expensive film. A24 is reportedly worth over $3.5 billion and is looking for ways to stay independent as it grows. A blockbuster adaptation of one of the decade’s most popular video games is part of that strategy.

Still, the signs suggest Elden Ring will feel more like an A24 film than a typical blockbuster. Alex Garland directs. His earlier films include Ex Machina, Annihilation and Civil War. Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny and Nick Offerman star in undisclosed roles, and plot details remain secret.

A blockbuster video game adaptation hasn’t made a run at awards season before. If one could, it would be Elden Ring. A24 currently plans to release the film in theaters on March 3, 2028. That year should also bring a Helldivers movie from Sony Pictures and a Call of Duty movie from Skydance.
