Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma 2 was undoubtedly one of the most compelling and unapologetically challenging RPGs to grace our screens in 2024. Today, during the Nintendo Summer Direct, it was confirmed that this epic fantasy journey is heading to the Switch 2. More importantly, the reveal unveiled Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, a definitive edition that bundles the base game with its highly anticipated expansion. This content will also be available as paid DLC for current platforms; check out the announcement trailer below.
The centerpiece of the Dark Arisen expansion is the frozen wilderness of Norgan. This harsh, icy northern territory invites players to brave the cold in search of powerful relics, which can be appraised to unlock formidable gear and unique abilities. Beyond the new region, the update introduces 12 challenging dungeons and expands character customization with fresh hairstyles and intricate tattoo options for both the Arisen and their Pawns.
In addition to the expansion, Capcom is rolling out substantial free updates for all players. The first patch, dropping today (June 9), introduces vital quality-of-life enhancements, including the long-awaited Eternal Ferrystone and additional Portcrystals. A follow-up update slated for August promises to optimize performance and frame rates across all platforms, while also adding more save slots to offer greater flexibility for adventurers.
While the addition of the Eternal Ferrystone lowers the barrier to entry by easing fast-travel restrictions—a design choice I personally found added unique “friction” to the original experience—it is a welcome change for new players joining the fold. Dragon’s Dogma II: Dark Arisen officially launches on October 9 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Switch 2. Pre-ordering the title will grant you immediate access to the “Northern Attire” fashion set. For a deeper look at the core experience, be sure to revisit our original review of the base game.
