Disney Responds to Rumors About Purchasing Epic Games
Disney is not in talks to acquire Epic Games despite recent rumors, as the companies instead plan to continue their collaboration around Fortnite.
Dana Walden, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment, stated that the companies previously discussed investments and Disney holding a stake in Epic Games, although talks about a complete acquisition of the studio are not taking place now.
In 2024, Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games and acquired approximately a 9% stake in the company. The partnership involves creating an entertainment universe connected to Fortnite.
We have a great partnership and a number of releases planned over the next couple of years that will show the value of this collaboration.
Reports about a potential purchase of Epic Games remain rumors. Judging by Walden’s comments, Disney is currently focused on developing its existing partnership with the creators of Fortnite, and an acquisition of the company is not under discussion.
