Rumor: AMD is Developing New Ryzen Z3 Chip for Gaming Handhelds
AMD may create the Ryzen Z3 specifically for handheld gaming consoles, focusing on more powerful graphics and increasing the number of GPU compute units to 12.
According to new leaks, the Ryzen Z3 will be based on the Medusa Point platform but will feature a modified configuration with six Zen 6 cores and 12 threads. At the same time, AMD reportedly scales back the CPU portion in favor of graphics.
The main change will be the GPU: the Ryzen Z3 may receive 12 compute units on the RDNA 4m architecture instead of the eight found in standard Medusa Point. A 15W power consumption version and a Ryzen Z3 Extreme at approximately 25W are also mentioned. Both options may not receive all 12 compute units.
RDNA 4m will be an evolution of RDNA 3.5 featuring select next-generation elements, including matrix calculation blocks. This potentially allows technologies like FSR 4 to be used directly.

The chip will reportedly use a compact FF6 package measuring 25×25 mm. If this information is confirmed, the Ryzen Z3 will become a more specialized solution for handheld gaming consoles like the ROG Ally rather than an adaptation of an existing platform. For now, this is merely unconfirmed information.
