The wait is finally over for those eager to see how Crimson Desert performs on console hardware. New gameplay footage has surfaced online showcasing the title running on the PS5 Pro.
Pearl Abyss previously signaled its intent to leverage Sony’s most powerful console alongside the PSSR upscaling technology. Following this, the technical experts at Digital Foundry secured early access to the console version to put the PS5 Pro’s capabilities to the test.
While the version provided for analysis is not the final retail build, it is reportedly very close to completion. Technical analysts observed some minor graphical glitches and denoiser artifacts in high-contrast environments, though these issues are said to be less pronounced than those found in Resident Evil. Notably, the current build utilizes the first generation of PSSR technology.
Despite these early technical hurdles, the implementation of ray tracing across all three graphical presets makes Crimson Desert a visual standout on the PS5 Pro. The collaboration between Pearl Abyss and Sony has resulted in a presentation that pairs high-end visual fidelity with impressive fluidity.
Players can expect the most stable performance in the 30 FPS Quality mode and the 40 FPS Balanced mode. Frame rates exceeding 60 FPS are primarily achievable on displays that support Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), a feature the game already incorporates.
Digital Foundry noted that maintaining a locked 60 FPS remains a significant challenge even for the PS5 Pro, as the CPU continues to act as a bottleneck despite its increased clock speeds. Nevertheless, the analysts expressed admiration for what Pearl Abyss has achieved using its proprietary engine and are looking forward to the integration of PSSR 2.0, which is expected to further refine the experience.
