Blizzard is preparing a major event for Diablo IV. The game will undergo sweeping changes intended to reinvigorate the experience.
The update, known within the community as Loot 3.0, was revealed during a dedicated fan session. It wasn’t a typical livestream — Blizzard chose to present through Rhykkeren, a well-known Diablo streamer. It was there the phrase “Judgment Day” for Diablo IV was coined — a sweeping overhaul that could redefine the entire game.
The patch will overhaul combat, progression, and item systems; leaderboards will be restored, and iconic bosses — Andariel, Duriel, Belial, and Azmodan — will appear across Sanctuary as the first new World Bosses since launch. Each demon will offer unique activities and drop Corrupted Essences that unlock exclusive gear.
Starting with Season 11, a Divine Gifts system will be introduced: players will choose between blessings and curses from the Archangel Hadriel — Purified Gifts make play more forgiving and double rewards, while Corrupted Gifts raise the challenge in exchange for potent bonuses. This is no longer just “seasonal powers” but a new progression layer designed to add variety and long-term depth.
The Tempering and Masterworking systems have been completely redesigned. You can now target affixes precisely without risking item loss. Masterworking enhances a new Quality stat that affects damage, armor, or resistances. Reaching Quality 20 unlocks a Capstone Bonus that transforms a standard affix into a “Greater Affix.” The upgrade process is simplified, items are preserved, and base affix slots have been increased from three to four.
