Crystal Dynamics has confirmed that Tomb Raider: Catalyst and other upcoming entries in the franchise will use the version of Lara Croft from the survivor trilogy that began with the 2013 reboot.

Speaking at Gamescom, game director Raul Siqueira discussed the connection between Catalyst and Legacy of Atlantis, the remake of the original 1996 Tomb Raider. Both games will feature the same Lara.

The developers decided to keep the character shaped by the survival era as the foundation for future projects in the universe. At the same time, Legacy of Atlantis will remain a standalone game and preserve the spirit of the original.

The studio stated that it wants to combine nostalgia for the classic games with the character development of Lara, who evolved from an inexperienced shipwreck survivor into a seasoned adventurer.

Following a delay, the release of Tomb Raider: Catalyst is now expected in 2028.
