Destiny 3 in a “Very Early Stage” — Insider
Two insiders have reported that Bungie has begun work on Destiny 3. The first account to share the claim was Bungie_Leaks, which had previously paused posting to avoid legal trouble but has now released new information. The report was originally posted on X by user starsiza.
In addition to Destiny 3, sources say a “classic-style” version of Destiny 2 has also been given the green light.
Shortly afterward, insider Colony Deaks corroborated the claim:
Yes — Destiny 3 is in a very early stage of development […]. We’ve kept this information under wraps for several weeks because we preferred to wait until the project started to take shape […]. Over the coming months we plan to share additional updates.
Rumors about Destiny 3 first surfaced back in 2018, but development did not proceed at that time. After the launch of the “The Edge of Fate” expansion, Destiny 2 experienced a sharp decline in its Steam audience, and Sony recorded $204 million in losses due to weak sales. Those factors may have pushed Bungie and Sony toward greenlighting a new installment in the franchise.
