Efforts to modernize Dark Souls 2 continue.
The creator of the DS2LightingEngine mod is developing a new version that will add full ray-traced global illumination (RTGI) support to Dark Souls 2. No release date has been announced yet, but modder Ganaboy has shared the first images illustrating the lighting changes.
According to the developer, RTGI is integrated directly and is not a ReShade-style workaround. To demonstrate the difference he provided a comparison: the screenshots put the game’s original lighting side-by-side with RTGI, revealing stronger contrast, deeper shadows, and an overall improvement in visual fidelity.
Below are additional screenshots from the updated DS2LightingEngine.
