Daniel Radcliffe has passed the torch to the actor set to play Harry Potter.

Daniel Radcliffe told Good Morning America that he reached out to Dominic McLoughlin — who will portray the young Harry Potter in HBO’s forthcoming series.

According to Radcliffe, he contacted McLoughlin because he knows several people on the production team. He stressed that he didn’t want to impose himself on the young cast, but simply wished the actor an enjoyable experience and hoped it would surpass his own.

“I know a few people working on the production, so I wrote to Dominic and received a very sweet reply. I have no desire to be some kind of ghost in these kids’ lives. I just wanted to tell him, ‘I hope you have a brilliant time — even better than I did. I had a wonderful experience, but I hope yours is even richer.'”

Radcliffe said that photos of the young cast evoke mixed emotions — both nostalgia and tenderness. “When I see them, I just want to hug everyone. I look at them and think: what a mad thing it was — I was acting at that age too.”

Production on HBO’s “Harry Potter” series is currently underway in the United Kingdom. The first season, adapted from J.K. Rowling’s novel “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone,” is slated to premiere in 2027. HBO plans to bring all the books to screen over a ten-year span.
