Creators of Netflix’s Best Animated Sci-Fi Series Have a New Show

Devotees of the surreal, imaginative animation found in Scavengers Reign and Common Side Effects have plenty to look forward to. Joe Bennet and Green Street Pictures are teaming up with Netflix for Dealies, a new adult-oriented animated comedy set within the chaotic ecosystem of a big-box retail store. Given the studio’s history of delivering distinct, challenging, and unapologetically strange storytelling, this project is shaping up to be an essential watch.

The official premise introduces us to a motley crew of employees at the retail giant DEALIES: “A savant salesman, a gentle gladiator, a quiet virtuoso, and a summoner of the divine—all managed by the poor soul who hired them. They are the true architects of retail alchemy. Prophets of consumerism. And, on the rare occasion, they even manage to get some work done.”

Bennet is joined by Ted Travelstead as showrunners, with both serving as writers and executive producers. The production powerhouse, Green Street Pictures—which Bennet co-founded in 2020—has built a strong reputation for collaboration, having previously worked alongside industry titans like Mike Judge and Greg Daniels.

While details remain scarce beyond the initial teaser, the visual identity of Dealies draws clear inspiration from the conspiratorial dramedy Common Side Effects. That series, which masterfully blended critiques of the pharmaceutical industry with sharp, psychedelic humor, currently airs on Adult Swim and has already secured a second-season renewal.

Before their recent endeavors, the team at Green Street Pictures captivated audiences with Scavengers Reign, a sci-fi masterpiece defined by its commitment to visual world-building and subtle, non-verbal narrative techniques. The series offered a breathtaking look at the alien flora and fauna of planet Vesta. Despite a frustratingly brief run on Max and an uncertain future, the show’s legacy highlights Green Street Pictures’ rare ability to push aesthetic and narrative boundaries in the animation space. It is heartening to see such a creative team continue to find the support needed to craft thought-provoking, high-caliber work.
