Creators of Reigns: The Witcher Studio Closing After 13 Years
Developer Nerial has come to an end.
Studio founders Tamara and François Alliot recently announced the closure of the company, which was established in 2013.
In an interview with Kotaku, the developers shared that the decision stems from financial difficulties. The studio’s most successful project remains the original Reigns. Subsequent games from Nerial, such as Card Shark and Crush House, proved less profitable.
François Alliot explained that it became much harder for the developers to move forward, especially under current conditions:
As everyone knows, after the COVID pandemic, the video game industry went into a slump. AI is literally sucking all the oxygen out of the room. So we need to regroup and go back to our roots. And to do that, we need to take a step back.

François thanked publisher Devolver Digital, which acquired the studio in 2021 and released its games. The developer mentioned he might return to making games in the future.
Earlier this year, Nerial released a new Witcher project.
In Reigns: The Witcher, the creators offered a new take on the franchise by letting players journey through Dandelion’s ballads as Geralt:
As the legendary monster slayer Geralt of Rivia, you must make tough decisions and somehow survive the ballads of a tipsy bard. Hunt monsters, anger the populace, and take a bath. Help write an epic work, and perhaps your fame will endure for ages!
