Cooperative Indie Hit Chained Together to Get a Film Adaptation

The viral title in which players, linked by chains, struggle to escape Hell will serve as the foundation for a film from the creators of Greenland.

Anton — the company behind Greenland, starring Gerard Butler, and Bomb, featuring Aaron Taylor‑Johnson — has announced it is developing a screen adaptation of the indie hit Chained Together, a cooperative platformer that went viral on Steam in 2024. The screenplay will be written by Cory Todd Hughes and Adrian Speckert of So It Goes Entertainment. Details about the director, the start of production, and an expected release date have not yet been disclosed.

Originally developed by UK studio Anegar Games, Chained Together tasks players — bound to one another by chains — with climbing through layered, multi‑stage worlds to escape Hell. The game drew over 94,000 concurrent players at its peak and holds roughly a 90% positive rating from more than 48,000 Steam reviews.

On the occasion of the announcement, Hughes and Speckert issued a joint statement.

As a result, the forthcoming film is expected to draw on the original game’s core mechanics, though no further specifics have been released. Hughes and Speckert are also attached to the adaptation of Finding Frankie, but their current role and any projected release date for that project remain unclear.
