Concept horror film “Semitone” to be released in Russia on April 30

“Undertone,” a groundbreaking conceptual horror from the visionary studio A24, is slated for a Russian theatrical release on April 30. The announcement comes from the distributor Pro:vzglyad, which is bringing the film to local audiences in partnership with Vereteno.

The plot follows the host of a paranormal podcast who begins receiving cryptic, unsettling audio files from an anonymous source. What starts as a professional curiosity quickly spirals into a lethal confrontation with the unknown.

Following its sensational premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the film was immediately hailed as a standout hit. Critics have been particularly vocal about the film’s sophisticated sound design, emphasizing that the full auditory experience is something that must be witnessed in a cinema environment.

In just its first two weeks of domestic release, “Undertone” earned over $15 million against a modest $500,000 budget, recouping its costs more than 30 times over. This phenomenal commercial performance marks the fifth-largest debut in A24’s history, eclipsing the opening figures of acclaimed hits like “The Witch,” “Midsommar,” and “The Lighthouse.”
