Combat RPG with ‘The Witcher’-Like Atmosphere — Gameplay Trailer for The Vernyhorn Debuts

Polish studio Interstudio has released new footage for The Vernyhorn. The title is a cinematic, third-person action RPG set in an open world, drawing inspiration from Baldur’s Gate, The Witcher, and Icewind Dale.

The developers of The Vernyhorn stress that they don’t need an enormous map. At the core lies a powerful narrative, a dense atmosphere, and emotional depth. Instead of hundreds of markers, the game offers striking locations, considered dialogue, and moments tinged with distinctive wit and irony.

The story centers on guilt, faith, and survival, with the protagonist trying to unravel their past. The team promises a simple yet carefully designed gameplay built on proven RPG systems without an excess of mechanics. Conversations can instantly escalate into conflict, and every line carries weight.

The world is given special care. Forests, marshes, and mountains were created using 3D scans of real places, while churches, walls, and tools were modeled after authentic Polish sites. The environment is meant to breathe on its own: weather, light, people, and animals all combine to create the sense of a living setting. Everyday life is based on the early European Middle Ages and was developed in collaboration with historical reenactors.

Sword fights were motion-captured with professional fencers to achieve precise, realistic animation. Every journey requires appropriate gear. The goal is to emphasize the world’s harshness without needlessly tiring the player.
