CDPR Reveals Number of Developers Working on The Witcher 3 Expansion

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt expansion Songs of the Past is currently being developed by 220 people, which is more than the number who worked on the original game, and the story is designed to prepare players for the events of The Witcher IV.

CD Projekt RED has not yet detailed the scope of Songs of the Past or the length of the adventure, but the team size is already impressive.

There are currently 220 developers working on the expansion. Of that total, 170 people represent Fool’s Theory, another 10 work directly for CD Projekt RED, and about 40 specialists are brought in through outsourcing.

For comparison, around 200 developers worked on the original The Witcher 3. This does not mean the expansion is comparable to the full game in size, because production approaches and team duties may have changed. Even so, the project’s scale looks unusually large for DLC.

Meanwhile, CD Projekt RED continues to develop other major projects: more than 519 people are working on The Witcher project, 184 on Cyberpunk 2, 84 on Sirius, and 33 developers on Hadar.
