CD Projekt Red Producer Says Players Do Not Want to Return to Original Witcher 3 After Remaster

The developers are very pleased with the results of their work.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remaster launches this month. The developers are giving interviews to discuss their work on the project while sharing various details and thoughts.

During a recent conversation with PC Gamer, CD Projekt RED executive producer Jakub Kutrzuba explained that the large-scale next-gen update released several years ago was created because a specific need arose at the time: “We wanted to bring the game to the new generation, and that update was largely technical in nature.”

However, Kutrzuba shared that the current remaster will be even larger and affects more technical aspects, “perhaps even more than the previous update”:

Most importantly, we are touching aspects of the game that we haven’t touched since its original release. We are talking about animations, gameplay, various quality-of-life improvements—how you actually play the game.

Kutrzuba described CD Projekt RED’s approach to working on The Witcher 3 remaster as follows: “We wanted it to match the execution level of any other game coming out today.”

The developers updated the animation system, worked on the camera and enemy behavior, and introduced various improvements. According to Kutrzuba, after experiencing the remaster, the developers find it difficult to return to the older version of the game: “It’s so easy to get used to these new improvements that going back is very hard.”

Nevertheless, CD Projekt RED will still allow players to roll back the game version if they wish to do so.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remaster is scheduled for release on September 29. A story expansion titled Songs of the Past is planned for release for the game next year.
