Can Xbox Handle Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 3? Square Enix Claims Microsoft’s Console Has Problems

Naoki Hamaguchi, the game director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, said in an interview that Square Enix has encountered memory constraints while working on the game’s version for Microsoft’s consoles.

These issues relate both to porting Rebirth (the second instalment of the remake, originally released on PS5 in 2024) to Xbox and to the third part, which is being developed as a multiplatform title from the outset.

Hamaguchi was likely referring to the Xbox Series S, which has less RAM than the higher-end Xbox Series X and the PS5. He commented: “When working on the Xbox build, like many other publishers, we ran into memory limitations compared with other platforms.”

Nevertheless, the director emphasized that development on the third Final Fantasy VII Remake entry is progressing well. Separate teams are dedicated to optimizing each platform, so the multiplatform strategy should not slow down the overall process.

The new chapter of the remake will launch simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
