Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Reportedly Featuring Counter-Strike-Style Mode
Activision has announced Collateral, a new multiplayer mode for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Collateral is designed primarily for Search and Destroy fans and competitive players. Structurally, the mode is much closer to classic Bomb Defusal in Counter-Strike and Valorant than to the traditional Call of Duty Search and Destroy. Teams take turns attacking and defending two bomb sites, and every player starts each round with a fixed loadout consisting of a pistol and a specific amount of money.
The main feature of the mode is its match economy. Players earn money by eliminating opponents and completing objectives, which can then be spent between rounds on weapons, equipment, armor, and perks. Purchased gear is lost upon death, but accumulated money carries over.

The developers have also removed several mechanics typical of Call of Duty. Collateral features no respawns, automatic health regeneration, custom loadouts, or virtually any killstreaks. The sole exception is the UAV, which can only be purchased by the entire team together. Perks are available, but their selection is limited, and the abilities themselves must be bought using in-game currency.
Between rounds, players will be able to purchase the following items:
- Armor and perks: Armor Vest, Battle Hardened, Lethal Reach, Fast Hands, Ghost;
- Equipment: flashbang, Molotov cocktail, fragmentation grenade, stim, smoke grenade, and shield;
- Pistols: suppressed pistol, revolver, akimbo, and high-caliber pistol;
- Primary weapons: shotgun, light machine gun, marksman rifle, silenced submachine gun, and submachine gun;
- Tier-one weapons: semi-automatic rifle, high-damage rifle, burst-fire weapon, silenced rifle, and sniper rifle;
- Team purchase: reconnaissance UAV.
It remains unknown whether Collateral will be a permanent mode or if the developers will remove it from playlists a few months after release.
