According to insider TheGhostOfHope, studios working on Call of Duty have responded positively to the Xbox Game Pass price increase. Activision developers say the new tier should give them greater financial stability and boost performance-linked bonuses.
I spoke with several Call of Duty developers who contend that the recent Game Pass price jump — from $19.99 to $29.99 — is beneficial for the Call of Duty teams.
From a financial standpoint, this translates into a direct gain: higher revenue that will allow them more control over their future and what they can accomplish.
Additionally, bonuses and similar incentives now promise significantly greater payoffs if the games succeed. The price increase also means they’ll need to create titles that sell better in order to qualify for those rewards.
Within Activision, sentiment around Black Ops 7 has become noticeably more positive. A few months ago leadership was displeased, but morale has since improved.
While the long-term impact of the price hike is still uncertain, the reaction from Call of Duty developers suggests Microsoft’s approach of raising prices while expanding content could prove effective.
