Reaching Runner rank 25 in Bungie’s Marathon unlocks the raid-inspired Cryo Archive mode. To ease the transition into this challenging content, the game provides a complimentary Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit, brimming with blue-tier gear. After suffering a brutal run where I forfeited thousands of credits’ worth of equipment, I begrudgingly equipped the kit—only to realize I’d mistakenly brought it into a Perimeter match. To my surprise, that error led to one of my most successful outings yet. Fortunately, following the latest Marathon update, claiming this supply drop is now a weekly ritual.
Bungie rolled out update 1.0.6.2 this past Tuesday. The highlight of the official patch notes confirms that players can now secure one free Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit every week. Beyond this supply refresh, the update introduces various quality-of-life improvements, bug fixes, and nuanced adjustments to the WSTR Combat Shotgun.
The Sponsored Kit was originally introduced alongside the Cryo Archive launch on March 19 as a one-time bonus from the Armory. As noted in a previous Bungie blog post, the bundle is curated with blue-tier loadouts designed to help players navigate early runs without the anxiety of risking their most prized gear.
Each kit contains roughly 5,000 credits’ worth of equipment, including potent healing items and high-impact weaponry—which explains my sudden dominance during that accidental match. Many players, myself included, usually limit their loadout value to around 2,500 credits out of a fear of losing everything. During that standout match, my teammates were also running with these sponsored kits; together, we dismantled three rival squads, cleared an objective, and reached the final extraction with mere seconds to spare. It remains the kind of high-stakes triumph that defined my week.
Now, you can replicate that success every single week. If you’ve felt deterred by Marathon’s punishing difficulty curve, this update provides the perfect incentive to jump back in. With a consistent supply of powerful gear, you are far more likely to secure a successful extraction and keep the momentum going.
