The company is confident that audiences are ready to visit theaters en masse for large-scale superhero events.

Disney executive Josh D’Amaro stated during a quarterly earnings call with investors that the phenomenal box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day serves as a strong positive signal ahead of the December premiere of the blockbuster Avengers: Doomsday.

D’Amaro congratulated Sony, Kevin Feige, and the staff at Marvel Studios on the film’s results. In his opinion, the earnings proved that audiences have not lost interest in superhero movies and are ready to return to movie theaters en masse for projects perceived as major events.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day surpassed the $1 billion mark in its first week of release and set several records in North America and worldwide. According to preliminary data for the second weekend, earnings have already exceeded $1.26 billion, and the final total will be higher after complete statistics from international markets arrive. Final results will be known on Monday.
