James Gunn Says Blue Beetle Animated Series Is Still in Development
Xolo Maridueña will also return to the role of Jaime Reyes in the Superman sequel.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed that the Blue Beetle animated series is still in development. A fan asked the filmmaker to share updates on the project, to which he replied: “It’s still actively developing.”
DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation put the project into production in the summer of 2024, but virtually no news has emerged about it since then. The animated series is set to expand on the ideas of the Blue Beetle film while telling a standalone story.
Miguel Puga was appointed as showrunner and director, and the script was entrusted to Cristian Martinez. Feature film director Ángel Manuel Soto joined the project as an executive producer.

The project does not have a confirmed release date yet, but audiences will definitely see Blue Beetle in Man of Tomorrow. Xolo Maridueña previously hinted at his appearance in the Superman sequel, and major Hollywood media outlets recently confirmed his involvement.
Man of Tomorrow is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027.
