Insider Reports Marvel Is Developing True Detective-Style Series

Marvel appears to be preparing its own answer to DC Studios’ Lanterns.

Marvel Television is developing a detective series for Disney+ in the style of True Detective. Insider Jeff Sneider shared this information during a new episode of The Hot Mic podcast.

Sneider did not reveal the main character, plot, or crew members, but fans are already connecting the project to Jessica Jones, who works as a private investigator and runs Alias Investigations. Krysten Ritter recently returned to the role in the series Daredevil: Born Again, and Marvel will bring back Luke Cage and Iron Fist in its third season. Because of this, the new detective project could theoretically unite Alias Investigations and Heroes for Hire, although such information has not appeared even at the rumor level.

A similar experiment is already being prepared by DC Studios. The series Lanterns, which debuts on HBO on August 17, is also compared to True Detective. In it, Hal Jordan and John Stewart investigate a murder in the American heartland, gradually discovering a connection between the crime and a larger cosmic intrigue threatening the entire universe.

In the same episode, Sneider mentioned another mysterious Marvel project scheduled to begin filming in February. In production documents, it goes by the working title Ahmed Stone or Amit Stone. The similarity to the name of mutant Ahmed Abdol, known as the Living Monolith, has sparked theories about the project’s connection to the upcoming X-Men reboot.

Marvel has not yet announced this project, but new information about Phase Seven, titled The Mutant Saga, is expected to be revealed at D23, which will take place from August 14 to August 16.
