Borderlands 4’s First DLC Was So Small They Scrapped Selling It and Gave It Away for Free

The developers have revised their plans for upcoming DLC releases.

A paid expansion, Bounty Pack 1: How Rush Saved Mercenary Day, was slated for release this year for Borderlands 4. It had been included with premium editions, but Gearbox has decided not to sell the DLC separately.

The team chose to make Bounty Pack 1 free and granted access to all Borderlands 4 players. The developers admitted they hadn’t finished the full scope of planned content:

Because this is a seasonal “holiday” add-on, we understood it needed to be released before the end of the year. However, the team realized there wasn’t enough time to include everything originally planned for Bounty Pack 1 without slowing the delivery of updates for Borderlands 4.

Owners of the premium editions have been reassured: the game will still receive a future expansion, Bounty Pack 5, which will be included with those editions (no further details about the DLC have been announced).
