Blizzard Entertainment now faces the task of proving it can follow through on its promises.

During BlizzCon 2026, developers announced two new games at once. Players will have to wait several years for the releases of Diablo V and StarCraft, which are slated to launch in 2029 and 2030, respectively.

Following the announcements, players raised many questions for the decision-makers at Blizzard Entertainment. In a recent interview with Bloomberg, company president Johanna Faries explained the unusually early game reveals.

According to her, Blizzard Entertainment wanted to demonstrate confidence in its upcoming projects:

We want to show confidence in some of our biggest projects. We are Blizzard, which will release games, will release major projects, and ship them on time, and all our efforts are directed toward ensuring these projects succeed.

During the interview, Johanna Faries also noted: “I am completely focused on ensuring that Blizzard is as healthy a company as possible.” She aims to preserve “Blizzard’s unique, special atmosphere—both culturally and creatively.”

The old Blizzard Entertainment operated on a “when it’s done” principle. It appears that developers are now aiming to release Diablo V and StarCraft within the stated timeframes.
