When Newborn refers to cost, he’s mostly talking about extra recording time. Voice actors must record multiple takes of each line — not only to give directors options, but also to account for variations such as different pronouns. Given the sheer volume of dialogue, adding a single additional pronoun set likely translated into dozens more hours in the studio for the cast.

“I think the point is that,” Newborn continued, “as we’ve seen with Larian and other recent titles, prioritising the player over profit results in a stronger game, better reception, and — more often than not — huge sales.” It’s little wonder fans only grew more devoted to their problematic favorite vampire.
