Assassin’s Creed Shadows Getting Tabletop Tactical Game With Stealth Mechanics

Publisher Maestro Media plans to launch a Gamefound campaign for Assassin’s Creed Shadows – The Board Game, a cooperative tactical tabletop game. Players take on dangerous missions as Naoe and Yasuke, using lethal techniques to eliminate enemies in feudal Japan.

Observant users noticed that a page for the tabletop adaptation of the role-playing action game Assassin’s Creed Shadows has appeared on the crowdfunding platform Gamefound.

Maestro Media has not yet made a full announcement of the project, but players have still managed to learn some details.

The game is a cooperative tactical experience for 1 to 4 players, set in feudal Japan in 1579. Players join Fujibayashi Naoe, a shinobi from Iga Province, and Yasuke, a samurai of African origin, on missions that keep posing the same question: “sneak past unnoticed or cut your way through?”.

Each hero has a personal deck of cards that controls both movement and combat. Players can play as many cards as they like on their turn, boost actions by discarding additional cards, and build up adrenaline for the deadliest techniques. However, only two cards can be drawn per round, so every choice matters.

Guards face the direction they are turned, and walls block their line of sight. Alarms spread from one enemy to another as soon as someone spots a player. Each discovered body raises the alert level, and alerted enemies hunt down the players, while those who are unaware of the players’ presence cannot even defend themselves.

A fully automated enemy deck controls the opposing forces and works as a kind of clock, so no game master is needed. The game includes about 20 scenarios, each with its own map, enemy forces, and objectives, so no two missions are alike. Each scenario takes 20 to 30 minutes to play.

More details about the tabletop version of Assassin’s Creed Shadows are expected to become known in the near future.
