Completing that Origins mission even rewarded players with an in-game Chocobo — those creatures turn up everywhere. Although Salim voiced Bayek, his reaction suggested he was entertained, if a little bemused.

The Attack on Titan tie-in takes a different tack. It’s a single mission set inside an icy cavern where a colossal Titan pursues you. You can equip Omni-Directional Mobility Gear, but its use is more limited than some players might expect, and there isn’t a big, cinematic showdown with the chasing Titan.

Even so, the crossover has grabbed attention — including from people connected to the series. After chocobos and AoT mobility gear, the bar for the next crossover’s transportation options is now pretty high.

Ubisoft says the backlash to Assassin’s Creed: Shadows won’t stop it from experimenting with dual-protagonist designs in future titles “if we have a good reason to do it.”
