ARMATUS — PlayStation’s answer to Returnal? New project revealed in Xbox Partner Preview
Counterplay Games has unveiled Armatus. The studio calls it the culmination of years of labor by a small, varied, and devoted team.
The world of Armatus is a landscape after the end of everything. Reality has been ravaged by an apocalypse and demons now hold dominion over the planet. In the catacombs beneath the Cathédrale de Trois, members of the Armatus order summon a mysterious Warrior — an immortal figure clad in sacred armor. The player’s charge is to guide them toward salvation, even if their worthiness is uncertain.
Armatus is a brutal, fast-paced roguelite shooter. The Warrior will follow the Purified Path through the warped ruins of Paris. Every run is distinct: fresh rooms, shifting demon layouts, and randomized rewards. An arsenal of holy weapons, celestial abilities, blessings, and mutations can be mixed and matched to forge powerful builds. Death doesn’t end the journey; it hardens the hero, preserving portions of progress between attempts.
Armatus is scheduled for release in 2026 on Xbox Series X|S and PC, and will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
