ARC Raiders’ success showed generative AI in games doesn’t matter to gamers — former Square Enix manager
Former Square Enix CEO Jacob Navok maintains that most players are largely indifferent to the use of generative AI in games. He pointed to projects like Steal a Brainrot and Arc Raiders, and said he personally knows studios that incorporate AI as early as the concept phase.
Although AI adoption is progressing slowly, its use remains controversial. The press has criticized the technology for threatening artists’ and developers’ jobs and for enabling plagiarism. Navok says actual players are mostly unconcerned. Today, AI is employed not only for art and voice work but also for developing concepts and producing code.
Gen Z loves artificial intelligence — and they don’t care. Activision hasn’t abandoned AI, nor has ARC Raiders. The tipping point has arrived.
He also mentioned Steal a Brainrot on Roblox, the largest game of 2025 with an audience roughly 80 times that of ARC Raiders. Built around AI-generated characters, the title remains popular with Gen Z. The former executive predicts it will soon be rare to find an indie project that doesn’t rely on AI tools — including Claude for code development.
