Annihilation Battles Mode Returning to Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve

Bandai Namco has released a new story trailer for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve alongside details about one of the game’s missions.

Bandai Namco presented a new story trailer for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.

The developers also revealed details about a mission that will be part of Ace Combat 8. In it, players must launch a counterattack against SOTOA forces and destroy all enemy targets within a set time limit.

The main feature of the mission will be the return of the fan-favorite Annihilation Battle mode. In this mode, the player receives significant freedom of action and decides for themselves which targets to destroy and in what order. Targets that will be available to attack include a solar power plant, oil reservoirs, an air base, and an ammunition depot.

During the mission, players can return to a special supply line to replenish their ammunition. Consequently, the pilot must independently choose the optimal moment to reload and plan their route while keeping the remaining time in mind.

In Ace Combat 8, the developers are expanding the capabilities of Annihilation Battle through a chain destruction system. For instance, hitting a flammable object such as an oil reservoir at an enemy base can trigger an explosion and destroy nearby buildings.

Destruction can also happen as a result of falling downed aircraft. If wreckage or the aircraft itself crashes near structures, those structures can also sustain damage. According to the developers, this system adds another strategic layer because the player must consider not only the immediate targets but also the order and timing of their strikes.
