Andrew Garfield Open to Reprising Spider-Man Role for Unusual Idea
Andrew Garfield remains open to returning as Spider-Man if a new project offers audiences a completely unexpected version of the superhero story.
The actor discussed the possibility during an appearance on The Playlist podcast The Discourse, stating that the new project should present viewers with a version of the hero that has not yet been seen on screen.
Andrew Garfield does not yet know what such a film would look like, but a standard continuation of Peter Parker’s adventures is not enough for him.
“I don’t know. I really don’t know. It would have to be something very, very unusual, very strange and completely out of left field. I’d want it to be totally unexpected—a genre of Spider-Man story that people haven’t seen before, something way outside the box.”
As one of the possible options, the actor suggested sending Peter Parker on a journey.
“I don’t even know what it could be. Maybe a road movie.”

Andrew Garfield played the superhero in Sony’s duology, consisting of The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In 2021, the actor returned to the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home, appearing alongside Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire. No new projects featuring his version of Peter Parker have been announced yet.
