Analyst: Sony Earns 59% More Per Player Than During PS4 Era
Sony has increased its average annual revenue per active user by 59% compared to the PS4 era, with players now spending about $230 within the company ecosystem.
According to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, average annual spending per user grew from just over $149 in 2018 to $238.
This aligns with Sony’s new strategy. Company President Hiroki Totoki previously stated that Sony is moving away from an aggressive push for new PS5 sales and will instead focus on increasing profit from its existing audience.

The revenue growth was driven by higher prices for PlayStation Plus subscriptions, games, and hardware, alongside increased spending on microtransactions and digital add-ons. An additional factor was the pandemic, which shifted user habits and accustomed them to spending more in the PlayStation Store.
