Animation studio CloverWorks has released a trailer for ÆLIENS, the opening segment of its upcoming feature-length anime anthology GROTESQQQUE.

ÆLIENS takes place on an Earth where contact with other planets is already an everyday reality. The plot follows Eli, an alien who arrives as a goodwill ambassador and teams up with a space agency employee to make friends among humans. However, persistent fear and prejudice across humanity create significant obstacles for her mission.

Atsushi Nishigori wrote and directed ÆLIENS, developed the character concepts, and leads the overall anthology project. Nishigori previously directed DARLING in the FRANXX and served as chief animation director on Evangelion: 3.0+1.01.

The anthology includes two other standalone shorts. The second segment, titled 4649GIRL, focuses on gyaru girls competing in a brutal tournament inside a city trapped in eternal night. Takahiro Miura, director of Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works, directed that segment.

The third short, NOCTURN, follows a pureblood vampire and three girls she infected as they travel through an empty world in a van following the collapse of humanity. Nishigori directed this segment as well.

GROTESQQQUE is scheduled to premiere in Japanese movie theaters on November 6. An international release has not yet been announced.
