Activists Boycott New StarCraft Over Female Marine Character Designs

Release is still years away, but some people already have “everything figured out” when it comes to StarCraft.

A new installment in the StarCraft franchise was announced at BlizzCon 2026. Players have only been shown a cinematic trailer so far, but some have already spotted warning signs that have left them extremely negative toward the project.

Attentive individuals pointed out a moment in the trailer where women appear in the background. Decent-Amoeba-2971 criticized this creative choice, stating that he wants to see and hear rugged men:

Instead of a rugged male bass, we hear women screaming. Now StarCraft is going to have a whole bunch of bald female space marines. Having hair as pilots and medics is somehow too unworthy for women and doesn’t demonstrate their strength enough. We need to make them as ridiculously “masculine” as in the new Gears of War and Halo.

Discussion participants complained about growing tired of such typical “girl boss” tropes in modern projects. They do not understand why demonstrating a “strong” woman requires shaving her head.

Frozoneeeee expressed the opinion that modern Blizzard should not bring the franchise back:

As someone who owned the original Starcraft Battle Chest, I think the franchise is better off staying in the status it was in—forgotten by its creators, but supported by fans. Blizzard is dead. They will never manage to reach even a fraction of the peak they once had.

StarCraft does not have a specific release date yet. At the end of the trailer, the developers promised to “return in 2030.”
