A New Incredible Adventure Begins
The project is being framed as a fresh interpretation of the universe rather than yet another reboot.
Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced the development of a new Stargate series overseen by Martin Gero. Gero, who has a long association with the franchise, will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner on the project.
Gero has described returning to the Stargate universe as a deeply personal milestone.
“Two decades ago, Stargate: Atlantis was my first true job in television. This franchise is part of who I am, and I’m honored that Amazon has entrusted me to open a new chapter for it — I promise it will be something extraordinary.”
The press release frames the series as “a new original story” intended to launch “a bold new chapter” in the sci‑fi saga. Gero stressed that the show is not a reboot and will not invalidate the events of earlier entries.
Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures are attached to the project, while producers include Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, who launched the franchise with the original 1994 film. Series veterans Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi — both of whom worked on Stargate: SG‑1, Atlantis, and Universe — will serve as consultants.
Details about the cast and the release date have not yet been disclosed.
