10 New Movies to Watch This Weekend on Streaming

Happy weekend! Before you check out what’s new in streaming and rentals this weekend, have a look at our Fall Preview coverage, teasing some of the best movies and shows in the coming months. Now, on to the column.

The End of Oak Street is available to rent. The film follows a family plucked right out of an Amblin movie, whose neighborhood is mysteriously thrown thousands of years into the past, populated with dinosaurs and terrifying creatures from the Mesozoic Era. It Ends is also available to rent, following a group of recent grads who head out for a joyride that appears to have no end in sight.

1. The End of Oak Street

The End of Oak Street follows a couple at a very low point in their relationship. Denise (Anne Hathaway) is frustrated. Greg (Ewan McGregor) is clueless. Their kids can feel the tension in the house but don’t know what to do. Suddenly, their whole neighborhood is thrown thousands of years into the past, back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. The result is one of the scariest dinosaur movies ever made.

Per our Polygon review:

David Robert Mitchell’s The End of Oak Street takes an absurd premise of a suburban neighborhood suddenly warped into prehistoric times and turns it into the sort of classic Amblin romp you’d stumble across while channel surfing and wind up watching through to the end. The End of Oak Street more than makes up for a summer without an actual Jurassic World sequel.

More generally, he sees It Ends as a reflection of the many issues facing Gen Z as they graduate from college and stumble into a world that seemingly no longer works the way it once did. At this point, he says, young people are just looking for any viable path to follow. The film’s endless road turns that desire into something surreal and sinister.

Tony is an Anthony Bourdain biopic, following the beloved cook and food writer (Dominic Sessa) as an aimless teen who ends up working in a kitchen by chance, discovering his passion and life’s calling.

5. Best of the Best

Lifelong best friends Maya (Maitreyi Ramakrishna) and Anjali (Priyanka Kedia) are beginning college together. As the two enroll in UCLA, they join a Bollywood dance team, getting sucked into a competitive and cutthroat world that they weren’t expecting.

6. Finding Emily

7. The Napa Boys

Following an ensemble cast, The Napa Boys is a parody exploring Hollywood’s current franchise culture. The film is framed as the fourth entry into an established franchise, following a wine-drinking troupe through an adventure in the Napa Valley.

8. The Rivals of Amziah King

Set in rural Oklahoma, the film follows the reunion between Amziah King (Matthew McConaughey), a charismatic musician and beekeeper, and his estranged daughter (Angelina LookingGlass). As the two reconnect, Amziah hopes to introduce her to the family business, which proves to be more dangerous than she expected.

9. Goody Goody

Goody Goody follows a couple expecting their first child. As Goody goes into labor while a storm rages on, they realize that there might be an evil force staying in their cabin with them, and that it might be connected to their unborn baby.

10. Stop! That! Train!

Parodying disaster movies and featuring an ensemble cast of drag performers, Stop! That! Train! follows two bored train stewardesses who find new jobs on a luxury train company. When a massive storm threatens to derail their train, the two have to work with the other passengers and crew members to stay alive.
