Zach Cregger opens up about his “disturbing” next film

In a recent interview with Men’s Health, filmmaker Zach Cregger (known for his work on “Weapons” and his involvement with “Resident Evil”) shared insights into his highly anticipated new project, “Weapons.”

Cregger noted that the film draws thematic inspiration from Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.” While not a conventional horror movie, he promises it will be deeply “unsettling.”

“I’m just drawn to this story… It truly resonates with me on a personal level. Its narrative structure is as eccentric as the one in ‘Weapons’ or ‘Barbarian,’ yet it avoids shifting character perspectives. The plot unfolds in a highly unconventional way, and I’m quite proud of that. It’s an unsettling experience rather than a straight horror film, though it certainly contains terrifying sequences. I find it genuinely frightening. Even now, I’m still figuring out how to approach the filming, but I believe that uncertainty is a good thing,”

Industry reports have also drawn comparisons to Ridley Scott’s “Alien.” Rumors suggest the plot centers on the crew of the research vessel Spiritus Mundi, commanded by Captain Elena Voss. After intercepting a mysterious signal from an unknown planet, the crew discovers an artifact capable of manipulating time.

Steven Spielberg is attached to produce “Weapons.” Warner Bros. has scheduled the film for international release on August 11, 2028.
