At CinemaCon 2026, Sony Pictures officially unveiled plans for an animated feature film based on FromSoftware’s celebrated masterpiece, Bloodborne. Notably, the project will be produced in collaboration with renowned content creator Seán William McLoughlin, widely recognized by his online handle, Jacksepticeye.
The announcement arrived on April 13 as part of a high-profile lineup, following a glimpse at Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While updates on the long-gestating The Legend of Zelda film were also provided, the pivot toward adapting the haunting, Victorian-inspired world of Bloodborne has clearly seized the attention of the gaming community.
In a statement directed at the game’s fervent fanbase, McLoughlin shared his commitment to the project: “I am going to do everything in my power to make this the definitive Bloodborne adaptation. It stands as my personal favorite game, and I fully recognize the immense passion and desire for more content that this community possesses.”
Since its 2015 debut, Bloodborne has remained a benchmark for excellence in the action-RPG genre. Helmed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, the visionary architect of the Dark Souls series, the title carved out its own identity through a uniquely oppressive gothic atmosphere and a faster, aggressive combat system. Despite its status as a critical darling, the game has never seen a broader franchise expansion, making this cinematic announcement a significant milestone for its devotees.
McLoughlin’s involvement follows the trajectory of fellow creator Mark “Markiplier” Fischbach, whose adaptation of the horror title Iron Lung recently achieved notable success. The transition from independent content creation to producing high-budget film adaptations signals a shift in how gaming IP is handled, with the involvement of a producer who intimately understands the source material’s nuances likely to serve as a strong asset for the production.
Lyrical Media and Lyrical Animation are co-financing the film alongside Sony Pictures. At this stage, further details regarding the creative team or release window remain under wraps.
