“You can change your hair color”: Sadie Sink addresses rumors about her role in the new Spider-Man and Avengers: Secret Wars
While fans spin theories about whom Sadie Sink might play, the actress has only made the mystery deeper.
After finishing her run on Stranger Things, Sadie Sink joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She appears in Spider-Man: A Brand New Day, but her role remains under wraps. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sink spoke for the first time about the many fan theories concerning her character and appearance.
“People forget you can always change hair color. Still, I get why fans have so many theories.”
Sink added that the rumors were circulating even before she knew she was part of the project. Early speculation pegged her as the new Jean Grey from the X-Men. Later, fans suggested she could be Mayday Parker — the daughter of Spider-Man from the Tobey Maguire timeline — or a reimagined Mary Jane. Some theories went further, linking her to other redheaded Marvel characters.
Several of the guesses stemmed from set photos showing the actress with red hair and wearing camouflage pants, but it was later clarified that those might have been her personal clothes rather than a costume.
Marvel typically keeps plot details tightly guarded, so on set the actress has to conceal her costume beneath a bulky jacket.
“Tom can wave to fans because people know who he is, but when they look at me they see a penguin. Looks like that will be the case for a little while.”
It has also been confirmed that Sink’s character will appear in the upcoming crossover Avengers: Secret Wars, with filming scheduled to begin in London in 2026. That suggests her role will matter in future Marvel projects and that her part in the new Spider-Man may only be the start.
