Yakuza Creator Toshiro Nagoshi’s Studio Shuts Down, Ending Development of Gang of Dragon

Nagoshi Studio, the developer led by Yakuza and Like a Dragon creator Toshiro Nagoshi, has shut down, bringing development of Gang of Dragon to an end. The game was unveiled at The Game Awards in 2025.
Shareholders voted to dissolve the studio on October 31, according to a notice published in Japan’s official government gazette, Kanpo. Gematsu first reported the closure.
Earlier this year, Bloomberg reported that NetEase Games was ending its financial support for Nagoshi Studio, leaving Nagoshi free to seek funding elsewhere. NetEase had helped establish the studio in November 2021.

The shutdown follows other signs that NetEase is scaling back its gaming investments outside China. In September, Suda51’s Grasshopper Manufacture left NetEase and became independent again, just months after releasing Romeo Is A Dead Man.
